WORLDS_

Places I build to hang out, explore, and play.

Lower Level VR: Inside the world: two old TVs, the snake leaderboard and the red carpet.

Lower Level VR

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · VR development · #01

Basement OS is the home of Lower Level 2.0, my VRChat world. It is a 2000s basement full of the stuff I grew up with: old TVs, arcade games, a snake leaderboard, a working DOS terminal, changing weather, Xbox-style achievements, and an AI cat who helps me find bugs.

Lower Level 1.0: The basement in VRChat: red carpet, Halo on the TVs, a shelf of games and the neon LEVEL sign.

Lower Level 1.0

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · VR development · #02

Lower Level 1.0 is the first VR basement, and the entire house around it. It's 2006 and you wake up in your friend's basement after an all-night gaming session. You open your eyes, and the room smells like a mix of stale pizza, Mountain Dew and nostalgia.

VR Cantina: The dining room inside Unity: booths, wicker chairs and the TV wall.

VR Cantina

Building
by @cloudstrife7 · VR development · #09

VR Cantina rebuilds a real restaurant, its dining room and its bar, as a VRChat world. I match it to reference photos and judge every build side by side: my photo on the left, the build on the right.

Relic Hunters: Slop City: The Crash Roof in VRChat: the WELCOME TO SLOP CITY, NOW WITH ADS sign, three Trial Troopers and the status bar along the bottom.

Relic Hunters: Slop City

Building
by @cloudstrife7 · Game development · #18

Slop City is a 1990s-style sprite shooter that runs inside VRChat, Quest first. It is 2045, it rains, and everything glows magenta and cyan. You fight from Noodle Row through a night market and a corporate lobby into a vault of seized physical games, then stop THE AUTO-RENEWER and hit the NUKE BUTTON. It is a side mission in the Relic Hunters world, with its own cast.

GAMES_

Games I'm making, from the first playable bits to whatever comes next.

The Relic Hunters: The title screen: the three heroes in front of a time portal, with a police box and a flying DeLorean.

The Relic Hunters

Building
by @cloudstrife7 · Game development · #05

The Relic Hunters is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up that runs in your browser. Three friends travel back to a rainy 2007 strip mall in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to collect sealed gaming relics, fighting cyborg Slop Agents on the way. The relics are how they stop a 2045 AI that makes soulless games.

Relic Hunters: The Accord: The title screen in Unity: RELIC HUNTERS, THE ACCORD, MEGA CITY // 2045, with Start, Controls and Credits.

Relic Hunters: The Accord

Building
by @cloudstrife7 · Game development · #06

The Accord is a 3D shooter in the Relic Hunters world, inspired by Max Payne: comic-panel story, gamer-noir narration and slow-motion dives. It is 2045 in Mega City. Gamefuel rides in on a motorcycle, fights his way through a corporate lobby with two pistols and bullet time, and takes the elevator up. It is built in Unity and runs in the browser.

The Long Way Home: The road screen on a phone: fuel, food, days to home and a crew vote.

The Long Way Home

Beta, friends only
by @cloudstrife7 · Game development · #07

The Long Way Home is a road trip you play on your phone, with friends, a little at a time. Everyone plays in a browser on their own schedule. Each person's big move gets collected at shared checkpoints, so a slow friend only delays the group moment, not your whole day.

Mandatory Side Quest: Chapter one: the road to Millbrook Gate, with the verb buttons and inventory.

Mandatory Side Quest

Designing
by @cloudstrife7 · Game development · #08

Mandatory Side Quest is a comedy point-and-click adventure with Zach, Lexx and Bobby. Ironwood's Quest Board has malfunctioned and turned every small civic inconvenience into an urgent heroic quest. Chapter one, The Unescorted Escort, has you walk a merchant to Millbrook Gate, but his cart wheel is square.

STORIES_

Comics, episodes, and other things I've made to tell a story.

Lower Level: The Comic: Episode 1: Zach, Lexx and Bobby on the basement couch (AI-made art).

Lower Level: The Comic

Coming soon
by @cloudstrife7 · Story and video · #03

The comic follows the Lower Level crew, Zach, Lexx and Bobby, in panels. Episode 1, The Remote, has 35 panels. It starts with a lost TV remote and ends with Bobby putting Halo on for co-op. Episode 2, Infinite Camo, has 22 panels.

Lower Level Legends: The Sitcom: The end frame of the logo intro. This is a mockup, not footage.

Lower Level Legends: The Sitcom

Coming soon
by @cloudstrife7 · Story and video · #04

Lower Level Legends is the sitcom: the same three friends in the same basement, hanging out with no plot pressure. It is short, funny, and made with AI. It shares its cast and its setting with the Relic Hunters game, but it is its own production.

Pomodoro Maker

Works
by @cloudstrife7 · Story and video · #15

Pomodoro Maker turns a short prompt into a long study-timer video. You describe the scene, give it 3 images and 2 songs, and it builds the whole thing: each image becomes a short looping animation, a countdown timer runs on top, the songs play under the focus and break blocks, and a beep marks every switch.

LABS_

Things I'm building. Honest notes on what worked. And what didn't.

Cascade: Twelve room-corner views from inside Unity. Grey boxes, no textures yet.

Cascade

Building
by @cloudstrife7 · VR development · #10

Cascade is the first floor of my family's house, rebuilt in Unity from photos. It is a 1970s cedar catalog home, and I am building it room by room, by hand with Claude, to the same standard as the cantina. Later it could become a VRChat world.

Character LoRA pipeline

Works, rough edges
by @cloudstrife7 · AI tools · #11

This is how I get an AI to draw the same character every time. It is a seven-stage pipeline from my reference art to a trained and reviewed LoRA, a small add-on that teaches an image model one character. Some stages run on their own, and two stop and wait for me.

The second brain

Daily use
by @cloudstrife7 · AI tools · #12

The second brain is plain markdown files that answer questions about my own work, cheaply. There is no database. One index file has a line for every source, and code does the finding, not the model. It picks keywords, scores the index without opening any file, opens only the best file and section, and only then does the model run, once, with the evidence attached.

Sessions to guides

Testing
by @cloudstrife7 · AI tools · #13

Sessions to guides turns my coding sessions into tutorials. When a session ends, a hook saves it as a private devlog. If the session is worth teaching, it becomes a guide, gets checked for private information, is rendered as a PDF and is emailed to me. I reply from my phone: approve, edit or skip.

Going local

Concept
by @cloudstrife7 · AI tools · #14

Going local is the plan to run my whole studio on my own machine. Today Claude does most of the thinking: planning jobs, writing code and judging the results. The goal is that local models on my RTX 4080 laptop do the daily work, and Claude only reviews it. The reason is independence: no usage caps, no cloud bill, and my work stays on my computer.

TOOLS_

Apps and widgets I made for my own day: tasks, money and my phone's home screen.

Desktop

Web Task App

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #19

Web Task App is my own Todoist, self-hosted for one person. It runs on my NAS at home and is reachable only over Tailscale. It has a Home side and a Projects side, Todoist-style quick add, reminders on my phone through a private ntfy server, and links to GitHub, Claude Code and my Pebble ring.

Web Budget App

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #20

Web Budget App is a self-hosted household budget app that works like YNAB 4: the month-by-month budget grid, account registers with splits and transfers, scheduled transactions and reports. It imports an old YNAB 4 budget straight from its backup files, and it runs on my NAS.

Blurt

Works
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #21

Blurt is a task and project intake tool for my phone's home screen that connects to Web Task App. Tap the red button, talk into the keyboard's mic, and your words become tasks. A few seconds after you stop talking, it sends itself.

Habit tracker

Works
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #22

My daily habits from Web Task App on the phone's home screen. A habit is a recurring task with a label. Tick it off and it moves to its next date; tick it again to undo.

Web Task Widget

Works
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #23

Today from Web Task App on the phone's home screen: overdue tasks first, then today's. Tap a task to complete it. It keeps working offline from the last refresh.

yt-dlp widget

Works
by @cloudstrife7 · Tools · #24

Snag, a home-screen widget: paste a video or GIF link and it downloads with yt-dlp. Each finished video shows up as a card; tap one to open it in the browser and save it to the phone.

WEBSITES_

Sites I run for the things I make and the things I love.

basementos.com: The basementos.com home page: a retro terminal window with the menu, the world summary and the project stats.

basementos.com

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · Websites · #16

basementos.com is the website for Lower Level VR, a second front door to the world. It shows the world's achievements and high scores, and it has a build diary. I built it with Claude without knowing how to code: I directed, and the AI wrote the code. It has a player view and a plain developer view.

ms2fett.com: The home page of the live site.

ms2fett.com

Live
by @cloudstrife7 · Websites · #17

ms2fett.com is a small site that keeps the record of one Boba Fett costume, BH-7024, for the 501st Legion and the Bounty Hunters Guild. It shows every troop appearance as a mission card with photos.

Guides

not published yet

Start Here (free)

Six short guides if you have never built anything with an AI agent. Each one takes under 30 minutes and ends with something working on your screen.

Build guides

Real builds, step by step. What I asked, what broke, and what fixed it. The first one is a 90s-shooter-style level for VRChat.

Kits

Setups you can copy, like the system that turns my coding sessions into these guides.

// Follow along

No ads, ever

Patreon

Opens once I have five finished guides, so there is something to see on day one. Until then, nothing to pay for.

Email

One short note when something new goes up. Not set up yet.

In person

I like handing out cards and showing people the games. If you see me, ask for a demo.

// About me

The person in the basement

Pixel art of Zach leaning back in his basement full of old TVs, consoles and a 3D printer

I'm Zach. I build games, VR worlds, stories, and AI tools out of my basement.

I direct, and AI writes the code. I decide what we make, test it, break it, and send it back until it works. That's how I made a VRChat world, a beat-'em-up that runs in your browser, a road trip game you play with friends, and an hour-long study video.

Everything here is real and honest about where it's at. When something breaks, I write that down too.
